(SESSIONS AND FEES)
Please note that all training is conducted by fully qualified, accredited tutors.
All training is by prior arrangement, but please note that because of present commitments we are only offerening these services in relationship to art and creativity. In most instances we are waiving our fees in exchange for research examples.
PARENTS OF PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN
Parents of pre-school and ‘foundation years’ children are invited to use Concept Development Networks (CDN) in the broadest sense of the term, to track their child’s development in key areas, following the government’s recently published, ‘EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE: Setting the Standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five’ (in England, 00013-2007BKT-EN, or in Wales, AC/GM/0035). We are currently waiving our fees for this service. Training can be at the weekend, or during the week in the evening or day. If conducted outside Battle, a travelling cost may be incurred; please enquire.
SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN (PRE-GCSE workshops and small group tutorials)
Children from the age of eleven can be trained in the use of Concept Development Networks. Some children from the age of nine take to the system quite naturally, and these benefit probably more than most since the system suits their natural predilection. Introductory training sessions for these young people takes two hours (including a short break in the middle). Parents are allowed in special circumstances, but they must be prepared to allow the child to learn from their own experience (even struggling is learning, and anything other than personal experience is a barrier to meaningful learning). The most effective way of training is in small groups of up to five pupils. If conducted outside Battle, a travelling cost may be incurred; please enquire. Workshops can also take place on school premises for up to thirty pupils.
GCSE AND A LEVEL STUDENTS (private small group seminars)
Parents of GCSE, AS and A level students, and the students themselves, will be pleased to note that these are the levels of education where Concept Development Networks (CDNs) come into their full potential. By using CDNs, for note-taking during lessons and lectures, students are able to take full advantage of the system by transferring the information as revision work, and constructing more detailed networks in preparation for more in-depth final revision. The act of doing this helps to ‘imprint’ memory for exams. Where two or more students work together, they usually reinforce each other’s work. For this reason most of the private training we undertake is in small group seminars of four or five participants. This is the most effective private tuition, and consists of two sessions of two hours each, with a break of one or two hours for consolidation and practice. The two sessions can take place on different days if required, and the sessions can be during the day or evening, including evenings and school holidays. A charge may be levied travel. Please ‘phone for further details.
SCHOOL AND PRIVATE WORKSHOPS FOR PUPILS/STUDENTS
School workshops need to consist of 10 to 30 pupils/students. If a workshop is booked by a school or college, the system can be taught so that it might subsequently be used for pupil/student assessment. This is particularly effective in situations where the teacher has also been trained to use CDNs.
INSET DAYS & SMALL GROUP SEMINARS FOR TEACHERS/LECTURERS
We believe that training teachers (and trainee teachers) and other subject-matter experts in the use of Concept Development Networks will lead to a significant improvement in education during the next ten years, especially if they are trained to a degree that enables them to use and teach CDN in their own teaching. Using our own experience of teaching CDN, we can assist in the achievement of this objective. These can take place at a location of your choosing as inset days if you wish. It is worth noting that recently qualified teachers might already be aware of the benefits of the related method of ‘Concept Mapping’. Depending on distance from Battle, some travel expenses are likely to be incurred.
